Silicones are long chain polymers (many molecules strung together to form a very long chain). These contain repeating chains of silicone, oxygen and other elements. Silicone Dressings have a hydrophobic soft silicone layer that is tacky to touch preventing the dressing from sticking to the wound itself but gently adhering to the surrounding skin. As it prevents the outer dressing from sticking to the wound it minimises patient trauma at dressing change. Upon removal it will not leave an adhesive residue on surrounding skin.

Silicone Dressings are designed to assist wound healing in a wide range of conditions such as diabetic ulcers, skin grafts, blisters, burns, skin abrasions, skin tears etc. These dressings also have different functions and can be used as a wound contact layer with a secondary dressing or as an absorbent dressing for highly exuding wounds.
